Pre/Post Whitening Tips

Before and after your visit.

The same Wicked White session at BAO, in studio, or at your house. These notes help the visit feel comfortable and help the shade settle.

Questions

Before your session

  • Be seen by a dentist 2 to 4 weeks before your appointment to confirm no dental treatment is required.
  • If you are concerned about sensitivity, start a toothpaste such as Sensodyne about a week before your visit. Brush with it twice a day. Sensitivity toothpastes with potassium nitrate are a common way to settle the nerve before whitening. This is optional.
  • Eat before you come. After whitening you will want to wait before staining foods and drinks.
  • Brush and floss so the gel can reach the tooth. Come without lipstick if you can.
  • The visit is about 90 minutes: a consult, then three LED rounds.
  • Whitening is not recommended under age 16, during pregnancy, or while nursing. Crowns, veneers, and fillings do not change colour.
  • If you have a health history form, complete it before you arrive. At BAO we also go through this at the consult.

After your session

  • For the first 24 to 48 hours, skip coffee, tea, red wine, berries, tomato sauce, curry, and tobacco so the new shade can settle.
  • Use the stain-removing grit paste and sensitivity toothpaste from your take-home bag.
  • If you started Sensodyne, keep using it for a few days if you feel zings. Mild tingles usually fade within 24 hours.
  • Gum white spots typically clear in 10 to 15 minutes. Red-spot irritation may last up to 48 hours.
  • Brush twice a day and floss. Avoid very hot or very cold drinks if your teeth feel tender.
  • Results vary. Whitening does not change crowns, veneers, or fillings.
